There are various KNX products and manufacturers that are used by SmartBT for proposing the KNX solution and you can find them here.

BACnet is a data communication protocol for building automation that has been developed by the American Engineering Association ASHRAE for applications such as heating, ventilation, air-conditioning control (HVAC) etc. The integration of KNX and the associated mapping is standard-ised in EN ISO 16484 Part 5

It is started as a serial communication protocol published by Modicon in 1979 for use with its PLC and it is developed with industrial applications in mind. This protocol is openly published and royalty-free.

Developed further and the following versions are mainly in use:

  • Modbus TCP
  • Modbus RTU
  • Modbus ASCII

DALI is the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface. It enables easy and intelligent management of lighting equipment. The DALI protocol is managed under the internationally recognised IEC standard 62386 and is promoted by the DALI working party and part of the ZVEI - German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers´ Association.

DALI is not a bus system and was developed for local or room solutions based on digital lighting control features. DALI stands for the interface protocol and not for a system itself.

DALI was developed to provide easy to install digital lighting control solutions for rooms and smaller applications, whereas Building Management Systems and Lighting Systems like EIB/KNX, LON, LUXMATE or BATIBUS provide complex solutions with a high degree of integration of other building functionalities like heating, security, etc.

DALI is a worldwide standard, specified by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The DALI protocol is set out in the technical standard IEC 62386. To learn more about DALI, please link to:

A number of well-known manufacturers’ equipment are used for either single DALI line jobs or for multiline DALI jobs. DALI is used not only for dimming (Lux Level control) but also for Colour Control (device type 8) either as tuneable white or selecting a colour from the sRGB spectrum.
